Fallen Shades
Bridging bridge standing stiff,
over a river of flowing mist.
Either end lay hidden from the other;
nothing is seen under night’s moonless cover.
...Fallen Shades fallen forever.
Above, the cloud would hang and loom
(had not the moon gone to hide so soon).
Below stands a figure, veiled and hidden,
ensuing darkness wraps him within.
...Fallen Shades fallen forever.
In deepening darkness, a blind man walks.
Struggling forth in a darkened world,
he presses on; knows not where he goes.
Pursuing on—his destiny untold.
...Fallen Shades fallen forever.
Treacherous steps boldly stepped,
onward he marches, so wittingly pressed:
each step a daring feat upon an edgeless bridge.
He walks—hoping never to slip—for below lies the abyss.
...Fallen Shades fallen forever
Fear embedded deep within, his mind clogged
(the howling wind didn’t help much).
A clumsy move so foolishly played.
He knew better than to go astray…
dangling at the edge, his grip failing,
He knew at heart he was now falling...
... A Fallen Shade fallen forever.
